Painted Hearts
Ellie Joslin is a former journalist-turned-artist based in the UAE, whose Painted Hearts initiative is inspired by her own cancer survival journey. Her heart-patterned artworks are designed to raise awareness about cancer and are hand-painted in colours that are representative of cancer awareness ribbons, while her monthly Painted Hearts workshop is a community support meet-up that aims to tackle loneliness and isolation, and was borne from her experience with ill-health while living as an expat away from family.
Cancer Support Artwork
What do you say to someone with cancer? How do you show you care and that you're thinking of them?
It's difficult to know how to show support to someone going through a traumatic time, how to convey heartfelt condolence or even how to celebrate the happy news of a loved one being in remission.
Not knowing what to say or do is a completely normal human reaction, especially when you're confronted by life-changing circumstances and you feel powerless to help. When Ellie's husband gave her a heart-shaped present for their wedding anniversary, in the middle of her recovery, she saw how impactful a heart-themed gift can be. It speaks of love, affection, compassion, support and care when words are hard to find.
Ellie's thoughtful, hand-crafted Painted Hearts artworks are designed to raise awareness about cancer and to act as a symbol of support. They are made-to-order, hand-painted and available in any colour. Choose the colour of a cancer ribbon, the favourite colour of the person you wish to gift the artwork to, or go with a classic like hearty red.

The easy, guided painting sessions are held on the first Saturday of each month in Abu Dhabi at an art cafe. The painting session is free and all materials are provided; please be prepared to purchase a drink or food at the cafe.
